Our car repair garage in Clifton, Bristol first opened its doors in 1971. We’ve always been an independent and family-owned garage, run by three generations of Tebby’s.
Since our beginnings, our focus has been on delivering the best service to our customers every time, while still offering competitive rates. Now we’re a well established business providing services to private cars and business fleets.
We’re committed to honesty and integrity, so that you get a personal friendly service. We work to a strict code of practice that sees us affiliated with industry organisations such as the Retail Motor Industry Federation, an organisation that seeks to improve the standard of service in the motor industry.
Our family run business
My father, Sidney Frank Tebby had a passion for cars from a young age. Ever since owning his first car, an Austin 7 Ruby, my father loved to ensure his cars ran well giving me plenty of exposure to motor vehicles from a young age. I gained lots of experience growing up and my enthusiasm for cars led me to building and racing Mini Coopers.
My father and I both worked in the aircraft industry, but were made redundant when the recession of the 1970’s hit. With an interest for cars, a strong knowledge of motor mechanics and a background in engineering, the move to open a car repair garage seemed like a natural progression.
In 1971 we opened a small workshop in a lockup garage in Westbury-on-Trym and S F Tebby & Son was born. Our mission then is the same as it is today: to treat customers with respect, provide friendly service, while offering quality car servicing and repairs at a competitive price. It’s this simple goal that has seen the company go from strength to strength.
From small beginnings, S F Tebby & Son quickly built up a strong clientele based on referral and recommendation. At the suggestion of one particular customer, a local bank manager, the garage moved to a larger site at Highland Square in Clifton, which is where we still operate from today.
Over the years, we’ve expanded the range of services we offer to include car sales. We buy and sell cars nationwide for customers, not only sourcing the vehicles, but checking them thoroughly too, so we’re confident to put our name and reputation behind this service.
My father, Sidney Frank Tebby retired from the business in 1984, but remained a friendly and familiar face around the workshop. He played a huge part in the success of the business and remained active until the age of 95, when he passed away in 2009.
A very proud and happy moment was when my son, Luke, joined the business and now stands by my side in maintaining our personal service and honest approach, but more importantly ensuring S F Tebby & Son remains a family run business.
